About Us

Giddings Lions Club was founded on Aug 22nd 1928.  It was the first Lions club to be established in Giddings, Texas.  When the Breakfast club was founded in 1981, it was sponsored by Giddings Lions. At that time, the Giddings Lions was unofficially renamed “Giddings Noon Lions”.  Since that time, the Club has sponsored the New Horizons in 1987, Giddings Evening Lions in 2000, and Paige Lions in 2009.

The Club has 77 members currently.   There are over 260 Lions in Giddings alone.  We are in District 2S-5, which has about 2,500 members. Statewide, there are over 25,000 members.  Worldwide there are over 1.4 million members.  Lions Club International is the largest service club in the world.

GNLC supports local efforts like eye glasses for those who are in need of financial assistance, scholarships for graduating seniors from Giddings High School and surrounding schools, the Giddings Food Bank, Lee County Youth Center, Jr. Livestock Show, Rejuvenation, Giddings Library, Boys and Girls State participants, and many other local charities.  The Club, also, supports our Lions Camp in Kerrville, World Services for the Blind, an extensive worldwide effort by Lions Club International Foundation concentrating on site preservation, youth support, disaster relieve, and meeting humanitarian needs throughout the world, the Giddings High School Leo Club (high school Lions Club), Leader Dogs for the Blind and have helped provide a Diabetes Assistance Animal for two local families.

GNLC service projects focus on serving our community.  The Lions Club motto is “We Serve”.  The club has several events that help raise funds that go to many projects here in our community.  The premier event is our Casino Night, a first class event with fine food, an auction and tons of fun to be had by all that can attend. The Club also cooks chili in the fall and hamburgers in the spring.   The Club annually distributes Christmas Food Baskets throughout the city, makes quilts for children diagnosed with cancer/diabetes, donates to our local animal shelter, Relay for Life, Grimes Street Festival and GHS Grad Bash (just to name a few).

GNLC erected a covered pavilion at the Giddings City Cemetery and assisted in disaster relief for the fires in North Texas, Bastrop and Hurricane Harvey.  As part of the clubs social and fellowship gatherings, we put together hygiene packages for the local schools, host ice cream socials for GISD staff, put together care packages for pediatric cancer patients, host a 1st responder lunch, provide AC coolers or heaters to those in need, build the mini libraries (replenish books as they are needed) and send age related toys to children who have lost everything with Kids in Disasters.
